Goal 1

  • Students will be able to understand the plight of a refugee and explain the importance why to exhibit empathy and respect to refugees torn from their native countries.

  • Students will collaborate to analyze the anchor text and supplemental resources (e.g. video clips and articles) to create a dialogue that they will later use individual to create a written understanding and present their poetic analysis to the class.

  • CCR Anchor Standard RL.3 – Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

    • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.8.3 – Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision.
